Allow me to give an actual answer. I would suggest taking the time to expand your island to the borders of the plot claim. It should be 100 by 100 blocks in the end. Then build a shop and make your island pretty. No rainbows.

 

if you need grass i sell it for $1 each at warp redstock and i have about 27 stacks left =D

TFA is spot on. I always builtd right out to my island limit first, then plan from there. Make your island pretty - it will be what you find pretty

My island is at /warp Kiwijungle.

I just build what I see as a plan in my mind, and other days it's just random.

I bet your island will be lovely no matter what you do

 

build stuff with redstone blocks and wool, it looks cool

I just build something, decide I don't like it, build it again but different and give my friends the old stuff. That's what I did with my shop (/warp manicshop - /warp manicmall).
